Export a map as an image

Social Explorer allows you to export any map or a part of it as an image at various resolutions, including a very high resolution for large format prints.

  1. Click Export as image .

  2. Click and drag the corners of the selection box until the area you want to export is selected. Optionally, you can select the aspect ratio from the menu below the map to restrict width/height.

You can pan around the map by clicking and dragging the map, or zoom in and out by using the mouse wheel.

  3. To output an image at a higher zoom level than displayed, use the zoom dropdown at the bottom of the screen. This is useful if you are going to print a large or high resolution map.

You can now export images in 96, 192, and 288 DPI. Due to large file size, we recommend selecting 288 DPI only if you’re planning to order large prints, as larger files might affect loading time of your blog page or website.

  1. At the bottom of the screen, select the output resolution from the DPI dropdown. Higher Dots Per Inch is used to output a high resolution for printing.

  2. From the Format dropdown, select PNG Image if you want to download a single image with the title, map legend, and scale bar included, and ZIP Archive if you want to download the map, scale bar, and legend as separate files.

  3. Click Export.

Depending on your browser settings, you might need to select the folder on your computer where you want to save the image.

Once you’ve adjusted the image settings for export, you can also use the same settings later. Simply click the  icon in the export toolbar to use your previous settings.
