Social Explorer is proud to announce that we have published the greatly anticipated American Community Survey (ACS) 2020 five-year estimates. Thousands of variables from the dataset are now live and ready to be discovered on Social Explorer maps and reports. The most recent estimates contain data from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. While we can’t see how data trends have changed in the years during the bulk of the pandemic, we will be able to see the stark changes between the first year of the pandemic and the previous years.

The 2016-20 ACS estimates are part of an extensive effort administered by the Census Bureau, with data collected over a 60-month period. Unlike the one-year estimates that only report data for places with more than 65,000 people, the five-year estimates include data for all areas down to a block group level, which typically contain between 600 and 3,000 people. The five-year estimates are considered to be extremely reliable because of their large sample size, which leads to smaller margins of error.

The 2020 ACS Survey includes variables on topics such as income, race, employment, health insurance, immigration, ancestry, housing, veteran status, and much more. To begin uncovering and comparing new demographic trends, simply access this new dataset on Social Explorer’s dashboard through the reports or maps tool. New data trends and discoveries are only a few clicks away.
